Life in General

In my mind this post is potentially long, we will see what happens in reality:) I am going to rant and rave a bit, and show some fun photos. I try to keep the blog a happy place, but some things just need to be written.

I think I will start with the ranting and end on happier thoughts.

Another reason I hate word press, is the endless amount of spam comments, I get about 60-100 a day. I have also accidentally marked real comments as spam as they were in the middle of the million spam comments with no way to get them back. SO annoying.

I sent out a custom order today, and did not photograph it before I mailed it . UGGG You will have to use your imagination. My client ordered two vintage quilt wreaths for her double front doors, and she requested red bows. They turned out really cute. You can click here to see the vintage quilt wreaths I have in the shoppe.

****

This is the part that may get long. About two weeks ago Gabby came home with a opt out permission slip for a survey they would be taking in Health class. The permission slip said there may be questions about sex, drug and alcohol use. So, we decided she did not need to be exposed to these types of questions and opted out. We have talked about sex and answered her questions, she is aware there are drugs out there and she is aware of alcohol as we partake.

Last Friday night she informed me that her teacher forced her to take the survey. WHATTTTT?? She said the teacher told her she turned in the permission slip to late. As far as I am concerned up to30 seconds before is not too late. She also raised her hand and said her parents did not want her to take it and the teacher stuck her hand out and basically said too bad.

To say the least, Chad and I are furious. On Monday Chad wrote a letter to the superintendent of schools MO GREEN. I am going to go off on a tanget for a moment. Mo Green is new as the superintendent this year, and he started a campaign “Mo wants to Know”. He asked to community to email and ask questions or state problems and he would address them. The beginning of October I wrote him an email because I found out that he thought he would cancel all holidays in the schools. The kids only get a spring and a winter party. NO HALLOWEEN, Christmas, VALENTINES day, St. Patricks you get the point. I am so upset, who doesn’t remember making/buying valentine cards and passing them out to your classmates. I guess I understand not celebrating Christmas since we have to be politically correct. The point being he never wrote me back and Chad never heard back from him.

Chad then wrote the principal of Gabs school an email. He has been emailing back and forth for most of the week. The principal talked to Gabby and the teacher. The principal has apologized numerous times, but this does not change the fact that our daughter was exposed to unnecessary information and the fact that we her parents we treated as if the teacher has more say then we the parents do. Chad got a copy of the survey sent home with Gabby.

Here are some of the questions my 11year old and other 6th graders were exposed to.

Have you ever seriously thought about killing yourself?

Have you ever made a plan about how you would kill yourself?

Have you ever tried to kill yourself?

Have you ever tried cigarette smoking, even one or two puffs?

Have you ever had a drink of alcohol?

Have you ever used marijuana?

How old were you when you tried marijuana for the first time?

Have you ever used any form of cocaine, including powder, crack, freebase? OMG-

Have you ever sniffed glue, or breathed the contents of spray cans, or inhaled any paints? Introducing a behavior she new nothing about.

Have you ever had sexual intercourse?

How old were you when you had sexual intercourse for the first time?

With how many people have you ever had sexual intercourse with? ( Making it seem ok to have multiple partners.)

Have you ever vomited or taken laxatives to lose weight or keep from gaining weight? ( Once again introducing behaviors she knows nothing about)

Here is one of the responses Chad received, Bureaucracy at its finest:

Mr. Smith,

Regarding the question about the Youth Risk Behavior Survey:

The Youth Risk Behavior Survey was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is administered approximately every two years by the State Department of Public Instruction in school districts across the state of North Carolina. This survey is also used in other states across the United States. The Youth Risk Behavior Survey was administered to all the middle and high schools in 2003. The School Health Advisory Council recommended to the Superintendent and Board of Education that the survey be administered again locally to all middle and high schools. The Moses Cone-Wesley Long Community Health Foundation provided funding for the survey via the Guilford Education Alliance which is overseeing the project. The data that is obtained from the administration of the survey is used by various community agencies/organizations and school system staff when developing and updating programs. Thanks.

There is so much more to be said on this topic, but this post is way too long all ready! Chad is thinking about writing an editorial to the local paper. This incident will be notated in the teachers file. BIG DEAL!

*****

On to other happier topics.

Autumn is done here, there are only a few leaves left on the trees. We have officially moved on to winter with temps in the 20’s-30′W. we woke up this morning to snow. Not a lot, but enough to delay the start of school for two hours. I took a photo of the front yard before it all melted.

May not be too exciting to a lot of people who have lived or live where it snows. But for me the CA girl it is neeto. The girls were outside in it this am,they are hoping for a real snow so they can sled down our hill.

I made this quilt. It turned out fine, not exactly how I wanted. Last year I saw a quilt just like this but cuter on Sarah’s blog, I loved it and knew I needed to make one. I love the colors she used. I used what I had laying around.

I just added some vintage flinch cards to the shoppe. They are a bit different than the ones that are all ready there. You can find them in the emphemera category.

Another new item in the shoppe, vintage bingo cards- 10 pack. Check the ephemera category.

Off to knit and relax.

Made it - Monday

All of the things I am showing you today are things I have made. Some a while ago, some recently. I was hoping to get this posted early in the day, but I am currently waiting for my camera battery to charge so I can upload more photos.

I was up until midnight one night making this. Why you ask? Well, I had a slight chance of getting it in a co-op add in Somerset magazine. The owner of Lollishops was putting it together and someone who had signed up before me was flaking out. She emailed me the day of the deadline and asked if I could get something together. So I did and two days later she emails me and says that the other lady got her act together and I will get to for sure be in the next one. I am bummed, that was going to be so great!

Any way this lovely Yard Long Porch Pillow is in my Shoppe here.

I made this last week also. It is a baby blanket, fleece on one side and cotton vintage autos on the other. Perfect for a baby gift! It is available in the Shoppe here.

I made this a while ago when I made one for my friend Jenny in Napa. I love these burp cloths. I started making them when I was prego with Graham. The chenille is super absorbent and gets softer and softer with each wash. I love the vintage inspired ducky fabric. Also available in the Shoppe under the little ones category.

I made this awhile ago, however it says somethings about Christmas under the dog. So I thought it was more appropriate to show it now. In the Shoppe here.

I made this forever ago and have been waiting for cooler weather to post it. It is a size 2-3T. I made them for the girls when they were little and they look so cute with warm tights and a sweater for winter. Too bad Graham is a boy:) Available in the Shoppe here.

I made this last winter. It is a newborn hat. These are the BEST hats, they actually stay on and look cute at the same time. I need to make Graham a new one, he grew out of his hats from last year:( Also in the shoppe here.

Another cute winter skirt I made a while ago. This one is a bit bigger 4-5T.

Check the Shoppe for this one too.

I made myself a pair of PJ bottoms like Gabby’s. I loved hers so much I had to have a pair too. They are made from vintage sheets and are so comfy.

I decided to make a pair for the Shoppe, they are a little girls size 8. I love this vintage sheet, it is so soft and pretty. In the shoppe here.

I finished one of the two smaller vintage quilt wreaths. I love these and will be making one for myself.

In the Shoppe here.

These bags can be used as laundry bags, toy bags or even diaper stacker. I have one in Grahams room hanging on a vintage hook, it is next to the changing table and full of diapers. These will be in the shoppe in the next day or two, I am tired and want to watch dancing with the stars.

They are completely reversible.

I started this purse in CA last fall. It was almost done, it just needed to be lined. Not sure what I am doing with it at the moment.

Binky clip. I used these every day for the first 9-12 months of Grahams life, they are great.

Another burp cloth. I love the vintage inspired golf fabric. In the Shoppe in the “little ones” Category.

A girly burp cloth. How cute are the cherries!

Another binky clip. Pretty colors!

Last binky clip.

Ok, I am done for now! Sheesh, I didn’t realize this was going to be so long.

Busy Me

I have been sewing, sewing, sewing.  Everyday, I spend a at least three hours sewing.  In the evenings while we watch TV I cut out projects or knit.  I also added a ton of things to the Shoppe, some sewn some vintage. I have also been busy matching up partners for the Vintage Pink Christmas Swap.  If you are participating, I hope to get your partners info to you tomorrow!

An Estate Sale and A Project

Just a quick post before bed. I just added three new items to the Shoppe. I have about twenty more I will hopefully get added tomorrow.

I went to an Estate Sale on Saturday, I only picked up a couple of things, this was one of them. Isn’t it darling. You can find this is the Shoppe, under the For the Home Category.

I got this quilt and the next quilt for 6$. Originally the lady said five for this one and I said I had to think about it because it is in bad shape. So I looked around some more and I found another quilt. I asked her how much and she said ” do you want them both?” YES! How about 6$ for both. SOLD It is in terrible shape, there are quite a few holes and stains, it really needs to be soaked, I will have to do it in the tub because of all the tears.

This one is in really good shape. There are a couple small stains, so I think it will get a soak also. There are no holes which is good. It is super heavy, which will make drying it interesting. I think it is made of a bunch of vintage feed sacs. I love that it was only 3$:)

Here are the two wreaths I have been working on, they still need a bow and hanger, so they will be in the Shoppe SOON.

I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!! I got it at the estate sale too, it was 1$. It is made in Italy. I have a lidded one that my friend Heidi in Napa gave me for my bday!

This box of cards was 25cents. Love the roses.

I did get one other item, but you will have to wait until I enter it in the Shoppe. I will give you a clue”McCoy”.

This lovely vintage three strand necklace is now in the Shoppe in the Jewelry and Baubles category. Why am I not keeping it you ask? I all ready have a few that are very similar.

You can find this darling vintage clutch in the wardrobe section. I also have a couple vintage silver purses:) I do love the rose clasp on this one. This is perfect for the up coming holiday season:)

I hope to get the rest posted tomorrow. A few sewn items, a few vintage items and another Ephemera packet.

Graham is teething again, and he is a big ol’ sissy so I must go deal with him!

Projects and Kids

Yesterday I made the girls each a pair of PJ bottoms.  I am going to make the little dude some PJ’s as soon as I find a pattern I like:)

Here is miss Gabby in her new PJ bottoms.  I made them from a pretty vintage sheet. I love how they turned out and am thinking about making my self a pair.

A close up view.  I asked Gab if she knew what the fabric was from and she said “no”.  I told her they are vintage sheets.  EEEW- they probably have wrinkly old people cooties on them.  I told her as I was giggling- I washed them silly goose.

Here is miss Gwenzie Lou in her new PJ bottoms.  They are super soft flannel.  I love the ruffles at the bottom.  They were super easy too.

Close up view.

This is now in the Shoppe.  I have two more that are a bit smaller, that I will be adding to the Shoppe this weekend.

While my in laws were here last week, we went to old Salem . I took this photo in the children’s museum.  Gwen and Grandma Bonnie.

Mr. Graham practicing riding a horse at the children’s museum. Not a great photo of him because he really wanted to get down and try other things.

Don’t the girls look happy?  I made them try on the clothes that were replicas from the 1800’s in old Salem.  I made them do it because they didn’t have the grown up version for me to try on.  Yes, I still love dress up:)

We kept the girls out of school last Friday and went to the zoo with the in laws.  We had such a great day!  This was one of the few pictures I took while we are there because I forgot to check my camera battery before we left. Are they not so cute holding hands, it lasted long enough to get this picture.

Here they are playing in the children’s area at the zoo, I had to drag Graham away. There was also a really cute play ground that Graham loved, no photos though:(

ALL Boy!!

Now I am going to grab some knitting and a blankie and watch Thursday night TV.

Have a great night!

Made it Monday

I will start by saying this post is super long and there are a TON of photos, sorry.  I have been busy making things, and I wanted to share.  I have also added a bunch of new things to the Shoppe, which you will see in this post as well.  I told Chad the other night, ” even if I could craft and sew all day every day, I will never in my lifetime finish all the projects I want to do.”  But I’m sure going to try!!!

I finally finished this quilt I started last year. You can read the original post here.  I started out making this quilt for Graham, but Gabby being the dog lover she is begged for it.  I have since started cutting out a vintage cowboy quilt and Gwen and I are debating weather hers will be cute owls(me) or kitty’s (her), We shall see what happens and if it takes me a year for each one, yikes.

This is the quilt all folded up into itself.  It is called a quillow.

Vintage Story Book Pillow.

One of Chad’s co-workers special ordered this pillow. I love how it turned out.

I made these darling pumpkins a little over a week ago. Just got around to photographing them. I found the pattern here. They were super quick and easy to make. The part that took the longest was hand stitching the stem, worth it though. I also found the knitted snake pattern from this post, you can go here if you want the pattern.

I made this yesterday. It is a vintage quilt wreath. You can hang it for Christmas if you are not into traditional decor(like me)or year round. The fabric is mostly vintage feed sac from what I can tell. When I bought the quilt pieces, they were just that. They were cut and sewed into half moon shapes. I knew when I bought them, that I would not be making a quilt with them( too much work). So I was glad to finally figure out something to do with them. I have a few more in varying stages of completion. They will be in the Shoppe later this week.

A Vintage Rose

You can read the original post about this necklace and the next necklace here. They are now in the Shoppe.

“Pretty In Pink”

You can also find all of these vintage pins in the Shoppe in the Jewelry & Baubles category.

Perfect for the Holidays.

Add some sparkle to your life.

A couple of these started life as earrings, and somewhere along the way lost their mate. I altered them and now they are pretty pins.

This is perfect for your vintage kitchen. You can find it in the Shoppe in the Linen closet.

A Halloween bauble

- Skeleton-

This necklace was fun to make, I used a vintage dictionary page for the charm and added a vintage Skeleton key.

In the Shoppe just in time for Halloween.

After months of talking about it, I finally got around to making Ephemera packets. I had so much fun putting these together. I can’t wait to make more.

“Spooky” Halloween Packet. Each of these packets are full of vintage goodies, you can find a complete list of the contents in the Shoppe under the Ephemera category. There are only one of each available.

Close up view of this Spooky packet.

Here is a view of the back of this Spooky packet. Check the shoppe for a complete list of the contents.

Very Vintage Christmas Packet.

This is the “Vision of Loveliness Packet”

Close up view. For a list of the contents, visit the Shoppe.

This is the back of the “Vision in loveliness” Packet.

This is the Sweet Sepia packet. It is filled with all kinds of lovely vintage items in many tones of sepia.

Close up view. You can find a list of everything that is included, in the Shoppe.

This is the back of the Sweet Sepia packet.

If you there is something that I have made and you love it, I would love to make one special order for you. Just drop me an email.

Phew, you finally reached the end. Sorry for the length of this post, I have been a busy beaver and wanted to share. Off to bed.

Pink Saturday and A Winner

This is my first time participating in Pink Saturday. Beverly at How Sweet The Sound is the hostess for Pink Saturday. If you are interested in participating, you can visit her blog and join in the fun.

For my first post I am going to share a few of my favorite Pink items. I should have no problem coming up with Pink things for many months to come, since it is my favorite color:)

Not sure what the deal is with this picture, this is what happens when you are with out Photo Shop:(

Anyway, this is one of my very favorite pink items, I bought it from my friends Granny.  She loves pink also and once she heard I love pink she would save things aside for me. I got cups somewhere else, which eludes me at the moment, it may have been Ebay.

This is my very small pink milk glass collection.  I would love to have more of it, however it is not in abundance like the white milk glass is.  I also Love the vintage pink pottery dog, I got him at an estate sale a while back.

That is all the pink goodies I am showing for now, I guess the items below fall into the pink category also:)

The winner of my one year anniversary giveaway is………………………………………. #11Beeb Ashcroft - Congrats, I have sent you an email to notify you. Thanks to everyone who entered, wish I could give you all a prize:)

Here are some new items I have made, and will be adding to the store this weekend.  I would love to do it tonight however it is quarter to 12 and I finally figured out how to get my photos to do what I want them to do on Chad’s laptop.

Vintage Rose

This necklace is so hard to give up, I love it.  The rose in the charm is vintage wall paper sealed with a clear finish to protect it.  Added to it is this darling part of a lonely vintage earring.  The pink bead is also from a vintage necklace.

Pretty In Pink

I love this one too.  A vintage skeleton key topped with vintage beads and the other charm is a vintage rose that use to be an earring.

I’ve been tagged by Michelle at Country Vintage .

If you have been tagged, here is what is requested:

1. Link your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a post on their blog.
Here are 7 facts about me:
1. I was goth in High School, hard to believe I know.
2. I bungee jumped when I was 18 and have no desire to do it again.
3. I love the beach and would not be happy living any farther away from it than I do now. I even love the COLD beaches in Northern CA and Oregon. The beaches here in NC are FAB, comparable to Hawaii and Mexico.
4. I am still friends with all my high school and middle school friends. When I lived in CA, we all still hung out together when ever possible.
5. Chad and I have been together since I was 19. We still like being together after all these years:)
6. I want to have one more baby and SOON because we are not getting any younger. Chad is not so sure about this idea, so we shall see.
7. Chad says”you don’t know how to run.” He makes fun of me every time I run, apparently I look like a big dork.
That was hard. Here is who I am tagging.
1. Colima at Colimachia
2. Emily at Livin’ Vintage
3. Alice at  Love Green Mama
Too tired to do seven, so that is it for now. I know that I am not following the rules, but must go to bed.

Martha Stewart is hosting a Blog contest and will be featuring bloggers. You can click here to enter your blog. I entered on knowing that there is a slim chance of getting picked, but it never hurts to try.

I have some really fun posts planned, so stay tuned.
